Climbers at one of Scotland’s premier indoor facilities are enjoying the benefits of a more comfortable climbing environment following the installation of a new fan from Elta.
The Glasgow Climbing Centre celebrates its 20 year anniversary next year and now has over 50,000 members. Climbing is a strenuous activity which exerts demands on the body so, as in many sports related environments, an effective ventilation system is crucial in removing excess body heat and the odours that it creates. The replenishing of fresh air is key to ensuring comfortable conditions for the participants and central to that is the fan.
For the climbing centre a 900mm Revolution SLC fan, with inverter, was supplied by Elta’s distributor Systemair Fans & Spares. The Revolution SLC is a long cased axial fan available in 10 standard sizes (355mm to 1,000mm). It features Elta’s new high efficiency, adjustable pitch aluminium aerofoil section bladed impellers, with the impellers set at Eltas’ manufacturing facility to provide optimum performance, generating air flow rates of up to 19.56 m3/s. In addition to its excellent performance characteristics, the Revolution SLC offers strength, durability and corrosion resistance to ensure long life. The fan’s motors are totally enclosed to meet IP55 requirements, with sealed for life bearings. The fan can operate in temperatures up to 54°C and is used in a wide range of environments, from sports facilities and kitchens to factories and schools.
Rob Watts is the Centre Manager and recognises the benefits of the fan in helping with the particular challenges presented by the centre’s architectural heritage – “We are located in an old church so damp and cold can also prove a problem, particularly in the winter.”
“With a 16 metre high roof space, we use the fan to drive the heat down to where it is needed, at the same time drawing fresh cool air from the basement which, in our case, is effectively the crypt!”
Elta Fans is part of the £90 million Elta Group, a family of businesses with operations in six countries on four continents which, together with a network of international distributors, provides quality fans and related air movement equipment to customers worldwide.
